Biography
Emilio Tadini (Milan, 1927-2002) was an Italian painter, writer, poet, and critic, regarded as the "thinker" of the Italian Novecento movement. He graduated in literature and began his literary career in 1947 with the journal Politecnico by Elio Vittorini, publishing essays, novels, and poetry. After working as a writer and critic, he turned to painting in the 1960s, holding his first solo exhibition in 1961. His works were exhibited both in Italy and internationally, in cities like Paris, London, Brussels, and the United States. He was invited twice to the Venice Biennale (1978 and 1982). In 1986, he organized a major exhibition at the Rotonda della Besana in Milan, and in the 1990s, he participated in the Oltremare exhibition at the Galerie du Centre. A retrospective dedicated to him was held in Milan in 2001, accompanied by a monograph edited by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle. Tadini was also the president of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera from 1997 to 2000 and served as an art and literature critic for Corriere della Sera.
