Biography
Arnaldo Pomodoro is a contemporary Italian sculptor known for his geometric bronze works. His sculptures often feature tears or stalagmite-like aberrations, appearing to be captured in the process of gradual transformation into another object. Throughout his career, Pomodoro has created various versions of his "Sphere within a Sphere" in different sizes, ranging from monumental outdoor pieces to small handheld works. Born on June 23, 1926, in Morciano, Italy, he studied stage design and goldsmithing, later moving to Milan where he met avant-garde artists such as Lucio Fontana. Today, Pomodoro's works can be found in the collections of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others. He lives and works in Milan, Italy.
